Incentives and Core Principles

I’m a strong believer that incentives drive actions. This belief has motivated me to chose two unassailable goals with this project. My theory is that if I organize my actions in order to expand the understanding of AI technologies and their impact on the world and steer us toward a better future, I’ll be a net positive contributor to the world. We all have a collective incentive to build the best future possible – but that collective incentive is often overshadowed by other incentives. I won’t always get it right, but I’ll strive to keep this goal at the top of my priority list.

In addition to these incentives and goals, there a few core principles that motivate and explain my desire to do this work.

Empathy

Meet people where they are. Listen to their concerns, hopes, dreams, and the real world impact the technology has on them.

Accessibility

Communicate with clarity, simplicity, and tangibility in mind. Avoid overly technical explanations that could compromise my audience’s ability to understand the topic.

Objectivity

Strive for a balance of optimism and pessimism, hype and naysaying. Be concrete, truthful, and clear-headed about AI technologies, considering the promise of and perils related to these technologies.

Nuance

Be detailed and specific in my communication, avoiding over-generalization or handwaving.

Civility

Encourage civilized and good-faith debate. I know this is going to be difficult. The incentive structure of the internet rewards chaos and disagreement, but I’m happy to fight an uphill battle here.
